Live video messaging is a thing, and it’s especially a cool thing if you happen to speak in ASL. While many of us use text-based messaging programs like Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp (cross platform messaging apps) to chat, it can be especially challenging for those whose native language is ASL but writing in English. Thus, enter Glide, a live video messaging app (available for both Android and iOS) that anyone can easily download for free, and which allows people to instantly send video messages back and forth. For those who are deaf, this is particularly advantageous because now messages can be sent in sign. Not to mention that messages can be up to five minutes long and sent from one to fifty people!

And although Glide was not initially created for the deaf population, its developers have noticed just how popular it has become. They are now looking into ways to add instant subtitling for sign language and converting text into visual graphics.
