Assistive Technology Virtual Workshop

Join the Howard County Department of Recreation and Parks and the Loan Closet for an online opportunity to learn about the various assistive technology programs available to Howard County residents.

 

Virtual workshop presenters include Maryland Technology Assistance Program (MDTAP), Accessible Resources for Independence (ARI), Maryland Accessible Telecommunications (MAT), Library for the Blind and Print Disabled (LPBD), Equipment Connection for Children (ECC), and the Loan Closet of Howard County.

 

Registration is free, but you must register to be provided access to the Zoom meeting link. To request accommodations to participate, contact Susan Potts at 410-313-4628 (voice/relay) or spotts@howardcountymd.gov.

Denise spearheaded The Maryland High-Tech Assistive Technology Reuse Center (MATR), the first donation-based, Hi-Tech AT Reuse program from any Tech-Act program in the country! MATR operates completely off of donations so that high-tech AT can be provided to people at no cost for as long as they need it, with the expectation that it will be re-donated when no longer needed. Laptop computer sits on desk and has "Webinar" text on its screenRegistration is full for the U.S. Access Board’s Accessible Signage webinar on February 3 from 2:30 – 4:00 pm (ET), but to ensure all can participate, a livestream on YouTube is being provided. A recording of the session and the presentation materials will also be available in the online archives within 48 business hours of the conclusion of the session.

All webinars include video remote interpreting (VRI) and real-time captioning. The webinar series is hosted by the ADA National Network in cooperation with the Board.

Project Rainbow is a unique opportunity for people who are 18 or older and have a disability that affects their sight, hearing or speech, to help tech companies improve the accessibility of their Artificial Intelligence!

Participants will collect 25-50 pictures of themselves and record a short video (20-40 seconds) doing simple actions (smiling, V sign, blinking, etc). Clear guidelines and full support will be provided during the whole project, and participants will receive compensation. This data will be used to teach AI to be more accessible!

About Accessibility Boutiques

Accessibility boutiques are workshops presented by access technology experts of the NFB’s Center of Excellence in Nonvisual Accessibility that provide introductions to accessibility best practices and the latest trends in access tech. These events are offered by the National Federation of the Blind at no cost to Maryland citizens, with support from the state of Maryland through the Nonvisual Accessibility Initiative grant administered by the Maryland Department of Disabilities.
