The Department of Defense’s Computer/Electronic Accommodations Program (CAP) has released a new mobile app!

CAP has released a free app for Apple Devices, now available in the iTunes App Store. The new app lets users browse the latest news and tips on assistive technology, scan CAP’s calendar of events and stay connected to the disability community. An Android version is coming soon.

Visit Disability.gov for more technology resources, including information about how assistive technology can help people live independently and succeed in the workplace.

Mouse Hover

Many interactive elements on the web require the user to hover the mouse over a page element – drop-down or fly-out menus, tooltips, etc. Mouse hover functionality is usually not accessible to keyboard-only users (note that the functionality can sometimes be programmed to respond to keyboard focus or pressing Enter in addition to mouse hover). Perhaps more significant, hover functionality is not generally available on touch screen devices where only tap/click events are recognized. Because of these compatibility and accessibility issues, functionality should be programmed to not rely on mouse hover interactions.

AccessibilityOnline represents a collaborative training program between the ADA National Network  and the US Access Board.  The program includes a series of free webinars and audio conferences on different topics of accessibility. Sessions are held on a monthly basis and cover a variety of topics concerning accessibility to the built environment, information and communication technologies, and transportation.

Next Scheduled Session: October 4th, 2012 » Assistive Listening Systems (closes 24 hours prior to each session)

Visit them online to learn more and to register for upcoming events.
