Loan closets, the equipmentlink.org website and equipment recycling centers are all part of the solution to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to free and low-cost recycled assistive technology. But we know that there is more to be done in Maryland. In efforts to support greater access to items such as computers, wheelchairs, braille notes, shower chairs (and so much more), we’d love to hear from consumers, agencies and related organizations with ideas that could be implemented to ensure that anyone who needs AT can get it.

If you have an idea or suggestion, feel free to respond to this post or contact us by email, Facebook, or phone. We want to hear from you!

And feel free to check out the newest equipment listed on www.equipmentlink.org to see what AT is currently available on MDTAP’s equipment exchange website.

Getting a job can be hard, especially when you have a disability. And getting the needed equipment to do the job seamlessly can be even harder. Maryland offers many services that support the employment of people with disabilities, and many of these resources are now housed in one easy-to-access place at the MD Department of Disabilities Employment & Training portal. Amongst many resources, you can find job seeker tips, resources for transitioning youth, and learn how to maintain Medicaid benefits while working!

Additionally, Maryland offers the WorkABILITY Loan Program, a low interest financing program for individuals purchasing assistive technology and work-related items to support the creation of a new businesses, work-from-home endeavors, or maintain current employment. Individuals can finance the cost of a range of items, from work machinery to vehicles, hearing aids to braille notes, and much more. Read about how the financing program has empowered some of its applicants in our Lending Voices series.
