Caring Communities Disabilities Training Center offers a variety of VERY AFFORDABLE training opportunities to increase your knowledge of children living with disabilities, chronic illness and mental health issues.

We specialize in trainings that prepares individuals to offer first-rate care for children who have mild to moderate disabilities. Caring for a child with special needs can be a 24-hour-a-day job, with limited downtime to take care of family matters, catch a movie or just relax on the sofa. Parents of children with disabilities desperately need a break to rest, relieve stress and get re-energized. Respite care for a child with disabilities is something that every parent asks for, but few ever receive.

Unlike families of typical children, who can hire a traditional child care provider, respite care requires someone with training and confidence to tend to the child’s individual needs.

Training Topics include:
• Role and responsibility of the Respite Care Provider
• Disability information and awareness
• Communication issues
• Behavior management
• Safety
• Seizures
• Assistive/adaptive equipment
and much much more!

Want to help advance equity for people with disabilities in your community?

The Maryland Disability Equity Scorecard Project is seeking adults with disabilities to participate in community convenings. The goal of this project is to create a method for assessing and comparing how equitable and inclusive communities are for children and adults with disabilities. The result will be an accessible and publicly available data system and set of community-level scorecards. This project is led by the Johns Hopkins Disability Health Research Center in partnership with Clear Impact.

We invite interested adults with disabilities living in the United States to complete apre-registration form by July 17th

These convenings will explore what equity means to the disability community, and how disability equity should be measured. While this project is currently focused on Maryland, the goal is to expand nationally. You do not have to live in Maryland to participate.

Two virtual community convenings will be held on the dates below. Participants are requested to attend both sessions:

  • Monday, September 18th from noon to 2:30 ET
  • Tuesday, October 24th from noon to 2:30 ET

CART and ASL interpreters will be provided at both convenings, and materials will be shared in accessible formats.
