{"id":384,"date":"2011-11-28T12:35:34","date_gmt":"2011-11-28T17:35:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.equipmentlink.org\/blog\/?p=384"},"modified":"2011-11-28T12:35:34","modified_gmt":"2011-11-28T17:35:34","slug":"newsline","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.equipmentlink.org\/blog\/?p=384","title":{"rendered":"Newsline"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Joel Zimba, MDTAP&#8217;s Special Projects Coordinator<\/em><\/p>\n<p>NFB Newsline (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfbnewsline.org\">http:\/\/www.nfbnewsline.org<\/a>) is a service available to anyone who is unable to read regular news print.\u00a0 Over 300 newspapers and a variety of magazines are also available.\u00a0 A standard touch tone telephone is all you need in order to call a local or toll free number and begin using NFB Newsline.<\/p>\n<p>After entering an identification code and password, provided upon completing the application process, a user is provided with a<br \/>\nchoice of ten options.\u00a0 If you are using NFB Newsline for the first time, choosing option #1 will begin the interactive tutorial.\u00a0 The hierarchical menu system is easily navigable and moving between publications and sections of the NFB Newsline system is quick and easy.<\/p>\n<p>Within a minute of first logging on to the system, I was reading the most recent issue of Rolling Stone.\u00a0Then I switched to the local channel to check the morning news, which in my case was for\u00a0 Baltimore.\u00a0I am accustomed to a much faster reading speed, so I went to the settings menu via option #0.\u00a0There I was able to switch speech engines as well as change the speed and volume.<\/p>\n<p>Recently, NfB Newsline has expanded their offerings of international newspapers as well.\u00a0And Job listings, provided through careerbuilder.com, can be accessed by choosing option #9.\u00a0 If you would prefer to download content rather than listening to it through your telephone, NFB Newsline is also accessible on the web at:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfbnewslineonline.org\">http:\/\/www.nfbnewslineonline.org<\/a>.\u00a0 Publications can be downloaded or E-mailed to you for later listening.<\/p>\n<p>In order to begin using NFB Newsline fill out the NFB Newsline Application(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfbnewsline.net\/Nl2\/NL2NewUserReqInput.jsp\">https:\/\/www.nfbnewsline.net\/Nl2\/NL2NewUserReqInput.jsp<\/a>), or call(410) 659-9314.\u00a0 If you are a member of your state&#8217;s library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, then you are also eligible for NfB Newsline.\u00a0 You may qualify through other organizations as well.<\/p>\n<p>NFB Newsline is a free service provided by the National Federation of the Blind\u00a0\u00a0 (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nfb.org\">http:\/\/www.nfb.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>National Federation of the Blind, 1800 Johnson Street, Baltimore, MD 21230, (410) 659-9314<\/p>\n<div class=\"al2fb_like_button\"><div id=\"fb-root\"><\/div><script type=\"text\/javascript\">\n(function(d, s, id) {\n  var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];\n  if (d.getElementById(id)) return;\n  js = d.createElement(s);
