{"id":2227,"date":"2014-01-14T15:55:41","date_gmt":"2014-01-14T20:55:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.equipmentlink.org\/blog\/?p=2227"},"modified":"2014-01-14T15:55:41","modified_gmt":"2014-01-14T20:55:41","slug":"free-window-eyes-11414","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.equipmentlink.org\/blog\/?p=2227","title":{"rendered":"Free Window-Eyes, 1\/14\/14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Contributed by Joel Zimba, Special Projects Coordinator, MDTAP<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As we posted on both Facebook and Twitter earlier this afternoon, Window-Eyes is now free to any user of MS Office 2010 or later.<\/p>\n<p>By going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.windoweyesforoffice.com\">www.windoweyesforoffice.com<\/a> and\u00a0selecting my language, I promptly found myself in possession of a fully-functional copy of Window-Eyes.<\/p>\n<p>The installation took around ten minutes. After which, I was greeted with the familiar Window-Eyes interface.\u00a0 It\u2019s worth noting that the usual assortment of speech synthesizers are not included.\u00a0 You\u2019ll have to manage with the Windows speech engine, pretty easy on the ears, \u00a0or with E-Speak, which I personally find to be\u00a0un-listenable.<\/p>\n<p>Will this prove to be a destabilizing force in the screen-reader industry, such as it is?\u00a0 Who knows.
