Room T-130, Workforce and Technology Center<\/em><\/p>\n 2301 Argonne Drive, Baltimore, MD 21218<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Please join MDTAP and Stephen Frank from the Hearing and Speech Agency (HASA) for a demonstration of HASA’s new VRI service.<\/p>\n What is VRI?<\/strong><\/p>\n Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) uses video devices with cameras and screens to provide sign language or spoken language interpreting services through a remote or off-site interpreter. This enables people in your organization to communicate with persons with whom there is a communication barrier.<\/p>\n In the workplace, employees are increasingly converting to VRI services for brief interactions and regular meetings that would be difficult and costly to schedule with an on-site interpreter.<\/p>\n Generally, employers must schedule an on-site interpreter in advance and pay a 2-hour minimum, even if the actual interaction lasts 15 minutes. Schools and businesses located in areas not adequately served by existing community interpreters can also benefit from increased access to professional interpreters and save the expense of vendor travel reimbursements.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is a FREE demonstration; however, space is limited so please contact Lori Markland at\u00a0lmarkland@mdtap.org<\/a>\u00a0or 410-554-9477 to register.<\/p>\n
