{"id":1233,"date":"2012-09-18T08:49:37","date_gmt":"2012-09-18T12:49:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.equipmentlink.org\/blog\/?p=1233"},"modified":"2012-09-18T08:49:37","modified_gmt":"2012-09-18T12:49:37","slug":"accessible-coupons-9182012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.equipmentlink.org\/blog\/?p=1233","title":{"rendered":"Accessible Coupons, 9\/18\/2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Saving Money with Accessible Coupons<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Contributed by Joel Zimba, MDTAP\u00a0Special Projects Coordinator<\/em><\/p>\n<p>If my Mother knew I didn&#8217;t use coupons, I would never hear the end of it.\u00a0 Every week, she would have a stack of coupons paper-clipped to her shopping list.\u00a0 It&#8217;s probably what paid for my college education.<\/p>\n<p>Why don&#8217;t I follow in her thrifty footsteps?\u00a0 Well, organization is certainly an issue.\u00a0 I could barely remember to make a shopping list, much less find all of the coupons, get them grouped together and use them in time.\u00a0 Then there&#8217;s the accessibility side of the equation.\u00a0 Whether you&#8217;re cutting them out of the paper, or just sorting through the Saturday circular, coupons are an accessibility nightmare to the blind.\u00a0 Assistive technology is not much help.\u00a0Using the KNFB Mobile Reader is tedious and often unsuccessful given the low resolution and complex layout of coupons.<\/p>\n<p>All this changed when I found Grocery Pal.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a simple app which finds all of the coupons and weekly sales for stores near you.\u00a0 In fact every major pharmacy and grocery store was listed when I typed my zip code into grocery pal.\u00a0 Every coupon I selected was put into various lists&#8211;based on store name, type of merchandise and expiration date.\u00a0 And yes, I even bought things I didn&#8217;t know I needed thanks to Grocery Pal.<\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;re ready to go shopping, you can redeem your coupons in several ways.\u00a0 They can be connected to store loyalty cards, which apply the coupons when you swipe the card at checkout.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re feeling retro, you can E-mail them and print them.
